A new campaign urging everyday Territorians to put themselves forward for the upcoming local government elections has been launched by the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory, aimed at getting more women and young people involved in local councils.
No police station for Peppimenarti, govt claims residents didn’t want it amid Jovi Boys attacks
The Finocchiaro Government has axed a $19 million police station that was to be built at Peppimenarti because it claimed the residents did not want it and will instead build one in Maningrida, but the head of the local Aboriginal corporation said the residents were not consulted and simply objected to the proposed site of the complex in the middle of ceremonial grounds and wanted to use some of the money to build new houses so people did not have to continue living in tents.
Teen allegedly assaulted police during escape from arrest
A 16-year-old male has been arrested for assaulting two police officers while trying to escape custody in Tennant Creek, NT Police said.
