The long, drawn-out process to finalise Saturday’s Territory local elections is continuing, with the final results – including for close contests such as Lord Mayor of Darwin – not expected to be any clearer until Friday, September 5, when preferences will be distributed, the NT Electoral Commission said.

Government warned of mass relocation to Darwin if Wadeye barge stops
Hundreds of Wadeye residents may be forced to move to Darwin in an “avoidable humanitarian crisis” this wet season because the barge that carries food from Darwin will stop operating on Monday, the Thamarrurr Development Corporation has said, while the government says it is working on a vague plan to provide a freight service during the Wet.
