Opinion: Government’s $17b and 13,000 jobs Beetaloo gas claims don’t stack up
The Northern Territory Government’s claims that developing the Beetaloo Sub-basin will contribute $17 billion to the economy and 13,000 jobs relies on a very low probability scenario in nine-year-old modelling, while the moderate scenario shows less than $40 million a year in economic benefit to the Territory and an average of 82 jobs a year over 25 years, writes Climate Integrity executive director Claire Snyder.
CLP Minister held talks about joining One Nation: Sources
CLP Minister Steve Edgington has publicly said he will not run for One Nation at the next federal election in the Territory when asked on Wednesday, but the NT Independent can reveal he engaged in talks with a senior party figure about leaving the Finocchiaro CLP Government to have a tilt with Pauline Hanson’s party. Mr Edgington’s advances are likely to destabilise leadership and relationships within Cabinet two years into the CLP’s term, a party source said.
