Another company has proposed a development for the long-neglected Mitchell Street hole in the ground at the old Chinatown site.

An amphibious aircraft company the Fyles Government invested $10 million in that they claim will be a key driver of the NT’s economy in the coming years will truck up a 60-year-old plane from Victoria to house at an old hangar at the Darwin Airport, raising questions about the previously proposed Darwin Aerospace Manufacturing Precinct.

The Fyles Government says six international hotel operators and investors have shown “strong interest” in the proposed new hotel at the waterfront, but the government could not say if any had submitted a formal expression of interest.

The costs of an NT Government trade delegation to Vietnam involving Trade Minister Nicole Manison, Investment Commissioner Andy Cowan and Department of Industry chief executive Shaun Drabsch have not been publicly released, in contravention of the Labor Government’s own travel disclosure policy.

The NT Government is looking to the Philippines and India to supply 600 skilled overseas workers for the Territory’s lagging construction sector “in the coming months”, which will see taxpayers pay another $200,000 for local construction companies to fly to those countries this week to attract workers.
